  1. We don’t have the anthem playing before every surgery in operating room, but we do have our own rituals. As physicians, we send signals to the patient constantly about our level of respect and our whether we are “ready to play”. Maintaining professionalism and focus is more and more difficult in this high-turnover, digital age of medicine. Whether we project respect and readiness or unprofessionalism could be as simple as our attention and posture toward the patient.
